Course Description: A study of works representative of the major writers and periods from the middle ages through the eighteenth century, with emphasis on critical understanding of these works and on the influences that produced them. Course Objectives: Students are expected to acquire an appreciation of the literary value of the texts covered, knowledge of the cultural and historical contexts that produced those texts, and the ability to write and speak about them with clarity, insight and eloquence.
