Associate Professor of History, Wofford College, 1997-present. Courses include Western Civilization, American History Survey, Southern History, Ancient History, African American History, American Social and Intellectual History 1763-1865, Frontier History, and American Women’s History.

Assistant Professor of History, Wofford College, 1991-1997.

Temporary Assistant Professor, Georgia Southern University, 1990-1991. Taught American History survey courses to three sections each quarter.

Gordon Rule Instructor, Florida State University, 1989-1990. Evaluated and graded Gordon Rule papers, advised students on writing techniques.

Research Experience

Received Wofford Summer Research Grant, 2009. Ongoing work in the history of Florida tourism.

Received Wofford Summer Research Grant, 1995. Worked in primary sources on the topic of Florida’s women during the Civil War.

Conducted genealogical research for Jacob C. Belin, Chairman of St. Joe Paper Company, Spring 1989.

Conducted research for the Florida Supreme Court Gender Bias Study Commission and wrote an outline for the Commission’s chapter on domestic violence, Summer 1988.

Conducted research in primary materials for a professor with work in progress, Spring 1988.

Dissertation

“Watery Eden: A History of Wakulla Springs, Florida.” Directed by Dr. William Warren Rogers. This doctoral dissertation explores the social, literary, environmental and economic aspects of a popular Florida resort. It also examines the issue of conservation versus development.
