Philosophy in Action Living-Learning Community

Humanities 101 G and FYI 101 G, Fall 2016

Philosophy isn’t just about sitting and thinking. It’s about doing.
It’s about solving problems and bettering one’s community and world through creative and ethical action.

Students in this course will learn to observe the world in new ways, reaching higher levels of mindfulness and awareness first of their own daily experiences and then beyond.

Collaborating on projects right on our campus and just beyond our gates, students will develop deep insights and ask the best questions to learn how real people think about real situations.

Such philosophy in action can make organizations and communities better, life richer, and our future together, brighter. And as a bonus, these same skills help you start down the road of being a better consultant, doctor, lawyer, teacher, entrepreneur, inventor… whatever your path may be!

The experiential opportunities in this LLC will allow us to:

  • Engage in meditative observation followed by a picnic lunch by the river
  • Take a field trip to walk a labyrinth or other meditative space
  • Consult and engage in projects on campus and/or in the Spartanburg community

Apply for this LLC if you want to:

  • Explore your individual strengths and identity
  • Develop your resilience, mindfulness, and empathy
  • Improve your critical, creative, and ethical thinking
