Thinking like an Island: Sustainability Lessons from Hawaii for Spartanburg ~ Interim April-May 2021<\/h2>

Hawaii is a rare and special place, in which beauty and isolation combine to form a vision of paradise.  That isolation comes at a price: resources are strained and expensive.  Today, Hawaii is experiencing a surge of new strategies making living in the islands more ecologically, economically, and socially resilient.<\/h3>
\n\n\n\n

Join Dr. Dave Pittman and Dr. Ron Robinson as we use the collection of case studies in the text “Thinking Like an Island: Navigating a Sustainable Future in Hawaii” as the basis to explore Hawaii\u2019s sustainability initiatives. The editors of our textbook will join us by Skype and in person on island as we explore sustainability efforts on the islands first-hand, via a 19 day tour of 4 Hawaiian Islands: Oahu<\/strong>, The Big Island<\/strong>, Maui <\/strong>and Kauai<\/strong>. Students will reflect on and apply components of Hawaii\u2019s sustainability efforts to create their own theoretical sustainability models addressing real world issues, focusing specifically within the Wofford Campus and Glendale Communities. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
