White Savior

White Savior

white savior

A mirror selfie with the white Jesus at the Baptist Church my Muslim host mother insisted I attend weekly.

White savior
I wanted to be one
Believed my hands
Could heal
Thought my smile
Could open doors

White savior
I should not be one
Then how do I use
My hands
To heal?
How else can I open doors?

White Savior
I learned to spot one
Taught to ask
What is broken?
Before offering
Healing with a smile

White Savior
I can’t be one
My hands can’t heal
Smiling when my words
Have opened doors
But can’t explain that I have

No power to change it all
