Starfish, Responsible Employee, and Title IX
Wofford has a system called “Starfish” through which faculty send a variety of messages about students to advisors and other staff members. I use this system most often to warn you, for example, when you are coming close to exceeding the allowed number of unexcused absences, or when you appear to be getting seriously behind in a course. I will also use Starfish if I have serious concerns about a student’s physical or emotional well-being. These reports go only to the relevant staff members and are sent only to help you find resources you might need, not to punish or berate you. Starfish can also be used to praise students who perform unusually well or show marked improvement.
Wofford College is committed to creating a safe environment for all Wofford community members. To that end, all faculty members must report to the Title IX Coordinator any information they receive related to incidents of sexual or gender-based misconduct, including stalking, sexual harassment, sexual assault, gender-based harassment, and dating violence.
